IRON DAVE's BADD Experience !

So, y'all wanna know what happened when I did some charity work for BIKERS AGAINST DRUNK DRIVERS ??

I offered to help collect donations in the Florida Mall to raise funds that supposedly support victim's assistance programs. They're raffling off a dozen bikes and a couple pickups. I was invited to do this same task during the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally, and when the donation levels weren't up to their standards, they checked me out of the hotel and left me and another person from Orlando STRANDED!! Seriously! Most of you who know me know I'll throw my weight into supporting a worthy cause, but this one leaves me a bit a suspicious...
(This reeks, especially after I had offered to drive to Myrtle myself and they specifically told me I had to " travel with the group" )

The story will eventually see the light of day in one of the Florida Biker mags...when it does you can read up and decide for yourself. I find something very peculiar about their website...

IF you'd like to know how YOU can help victims of drunk driving accidents, E-MAIL me! irondave@whtq.com

BIO: Born: David A. Adams 9/19 in Baltimore, MD.

I grew up in Harford and Cecil counties... primarily Havre De Grace and Elkton. I'm the oldest of 3 boys, no sisters! My Dad was an Army brat; the oldest of 3 sons, his father (oldest of 7 sons!) was stationed with Aberdeen Proving Grounds as a Master Sergeant in the Ordnance field. He retired in the mid 70's, and less than a decade later I would swear in active duty to the US Marine Corps. My stint was short and sweet as they say.. ok, maybe not so sweet. I went in to the service with the intention of being part of the Marine Corps Band, (having spent the better part of my school experience involved in music at some level) but thanks to an overzealous recruiter putting fresh candidates in technical billets, I wound up working in Avionics, poking around on Harrier (AV-8A, B & C) and A-4 (OA4M) equipment until my discharge in 1985. Once out, I resumed my pursuit of all things musical in a civilian world, playing in various bands and faking my way through my early 20's until I latched on to my first radio gig, unexpectedly, in 1987.

Q: How did you get your nickname?

Back in early 1995, a radio program director dubbed me "IRON DAVE" because of my work ethic- I usually put in 14-15 hour days, EVERY DAY, and I guess the stamina related moniker stuck... I like to stay busy- it keeps me off the streets. Also, 1995 happened to be the year I started training in karate with former 96.5 jock Bob "Daddy" Rose. As my sensei, he used to spar with me, and hit me until HIS arms were tired; so he'll laugh and tell you I am IRON Dave . And then, of course my love of motorcyles and riding fits in there, too. Ride hard or stay home! It just fits me, I guess.

Q: You work constantly. What's your schedule like? what do you do in your spare time?

A: What spare time? I love what I do in radio; there's something to be said about enjoying your job. I have a pretty packed schedule all week, even when I am not on the air, you can bet I am doing something behind the scenes, I may be producing a live remote while Dixon & Willoughby, Alan, Buckley or Hildi are out on the street, or maybe I am the the production studio voicing commercials that you hear on the air!
Saturdays and Sundays I get to rock with you first thing in the morning. That carries right through the middle of my day.
I do get time on occasion to do something special with my kids, David and Amanda. There are some instances where you might hear David on the air with me. He's a natural. Guitar Hero has turned him into a classic rock nut... He loves Aerosmith and is severely into RUSH - his first concert experience - he's even met Geddy and Alex!
I love my radio jobs, it makes life fun. And people ask why I never take vacations...heheh.
It's great to meet the music people who created the "soundtrack" we've ALL grown up with, and the non-music people (sports icons, etc...) whose names are woven into our lives. I have a terrific photo album and some great stories for both on and off the air, sharing THAT with listeners makes it all a blast to do.PHOTO GALLERY

When I'm not on the air or producing, I try to find time to keep up with my martial arts training (harder than you might think... I study Torasamado karate, an eclectic american style, and my sensei is in GAINESVILLE.. !). I achieved my 1st degree Black Belt in the system back in 2001, under the tutelage of Bob Rose and direction of Shihan R. William Klase. (So if you're wondering, yes, I do answer to, "Sensei IRON Dave"). Sadly, the founder of the system, Soke Klase, passed away in 2004. (I found out just before I was to go onstage for a show opening for Marshall Tucker Band). Fortunately, I have lots of video footage of tests and stuff through the years to refer to .

Maybe you'll find me on a motorcycle (I love cruisers). If you ride, I have TWO words for you: TURN SIGNALS! It'll save your life! If you DON'T ride, I have some words for YOU too: WATCH FOR BIKES! We bikers are always watching car drivers, do us a favor and keep your eyes open when we're around, ok?

When I am out on the road, I love to find good restaurants with tasty home style cooking... or a worthwhile barbecue joint with huge helpings of smoky meat! I've hit 'em all- Sonny's, Keller's, Fat Boys, Porkie's, Shane's, Bubbalou's... got a place you can recommend?
You might find me out doing something music related. I perform as a vocalist and guitarist, and I still write & record songs occasionally. I love performing, I've been singing as far back as I can remember. I seem to recall an incident in third grade music class that really encouraged me. Ask me about it next time you and I are hanging out...

Sometimes I get a wild hair and will grab a book on a subject of interest (I also dig fishing, photography, NASCAR, space program/NASA and the NFL, among other things) and immerse myself. But remember no matter how much you read, the most important book to read: The Bible!

Speaking of NASCAR, this year, I'M GOING GREEN... GO #88!

SEE IRON DAVE PERFORM
LIVE!
I'm working on a new project that I hope to have out soon... something that will smoke everything I have done before...

STAY TUNED... UPDATES COMING!

Q: Hey Dave, being a performer yourself, do you have a favorite guitarist that influenced you?
-Janet, Maitland

A: I've never claimed to be a great guitarist, but with some focused rehearsal, I can do a resepctable job playing almost anything. I tend to focus more on singing, and my playing stems more from a writing mentality; I always just wanted to be a great rhythm player. I certainly thought Paul Stanley of KISS was a great rhythm player that performed lead vocals. Solo style-wise I always believed in B.B. King's approach; it has always been about a well placed note, or set of notes, with a little technique. That influence has been noted in the playing styles of great classic players like Clapton, Hendrix, Gilmour, Frehley, and many of the blues-based players.
I've always dug guys like Jorma Kaukonen ( Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna ) and that's stuff I can attempt to replicate, but I appreciate lots of styles from [Mark] Knopfler to [Billy[ Gibbons to Rush's Alex Lifeson . They all have something you can learn from. Most guitarists are all playing the same things, they just have their own "bag of tricks". Chuck Berry was slick with his bends and pulls, so much so that The Stones' Keith Richards copped that approach and made it his own.

The bottom line is, I know I'm not gonna ever be able to pull off Eddie Van Halen's style, but there are hundreds of shred clones out there that can. I hope whatever I do when I am performing is something people dig. EVH said it best: "If it SOUNDS good, it IS good!" Believe me, if I played something that was garbage, you won't have to tell me...
But I'll certainly rehearse enough to avoid that. (laughs)
